Card Slinger | Free Card Dealer & Shuffler Web App for Game Night
Game Night & Community Events·Web Apps
Overview

Card Slinger is a free web app I designed and built for card-calling games at halls, clubs and posts. It shuffles a virtual 52-card deck and deals one card at a time, big enough for the whole room to see on a TV or projector.
It started as a single HTML file for game night at an American Legion Post, where the group plays a card-calling game called Show Me The Money and needed a fair shuffle with every card visible to everyone. It became a public web app the same week.
The laptop is the dealer and a second browser window becomes a clean TV board that stays in sync, with all the buttons kept on the laptop. Hosts can add their own game name, logo, winner message, card backs, emblems and table colors, and all of it is stored privately in their own browser - nothing is uploaded.
Card-calling games are a staple at Legion posts, clubs and community halls. The caller needs a shuffle nobody can question, and every player needs to see each card as it is called. Paper decks and a microphone work, but players miss cards, and there is no easy way to check what has already been called.
Card Slinger began as a single HTML file built for one game night. It worked well enough that it became a full web app the same week: a proper Next.js build with its own domain, an About page, accessible content pages and search-ready structured data.
The host runs the game from a laptop. Opening the board puts a second, button-free window on the TV or projector, and the two windows stay in sync in real time. Called cards line up by suit, a winner triggers a celebration on the big screen, and rounds and undo keep the night moving. On supported browsers, the board can even be placed on the second screen automatically.
Every hall wants its own look, so hosts can set a game name, logo, winner message, card backs, emblems and table colors, and card backs can rotate automatically from round to round. Those images are saved in the host's own browser rather than uploaded to a server, which keeps the app free to run and keeps each group's branding private. The layout also adapts to phones and tablets, and a presentation remote can deal the next card.
