Half Pint Farm | Headless Shopify Farm Website & Google Calendar Booking
Farm & Agritourism·Custom Dev
Overview
This one is personal. Half Pint Farm is my sister's farm in Maryville, Tennessee, and this site is a genuine sibling collaboration. Our family is creative by nature - it runs from our grandmother through our mother and into both of us - and that thread shows in every corner of this project.
The entire visual identity started as a Canva concept designed by the client herself. Rather than just exporting what she had, every element was extracted from her design and rebuilt as a proper web-ready asset - colors, textures, graphic elements, silhouettes - then assembled into a fully custom Next.js 16 + React 19 site styled with Tailwind CSS v4, backed by a Neon serverless Postgres database with Prisma ORM.
One of the site's most distinctive custom details is the rustic image framing system. Every image placed on the site is automatically wrapped in a hand-crafted-style frame - no manual work required by the client. The frames come in multiple sizes and thicknesses that scale to match the image they're surrounding, giving the entire site a warm, tactile aesthetic that feels true to the farm's character.
The header and navigation are context-aware: colors shift when visitors navigate away from the main page. A floating hand-drawn texture overlays the edge of the menu, and a matching texture with a cows silhouette anchors the footer - details that make the experience feel finished and considered from the very first scroll to the last.
The Farmer's Market runs on a full Shopify integration - Storefront API-powered cart and checkout - selling the farm's handcrafted jams, jellies, pickles, herbs, and artisan vanilla extract. The Animals, Experiences, and Sale Pen sections are all built on Shopify Metaobjects, giving the client a genuine no-code content system: she adds, edits, or retires an animal, an experience, or a livestock listing herself, directly in Shopify Admin, with zero code changes.
Experiences include a full booking system built around Google Calendar rather than a separate database - a custom admin panel reads and writes calendar events directly, so availability, capacity, and booking details stay in perfect sync with the calendar the client already uses day to day. A Pay Now checkout layer, built on Shopify and backed by the Postgres database with a webhook-verified payment pipeline, lets visitors book and pay for an experience in a single flow.
Beyond the core build: a GOVX ID veteran-discount integration at checkout, a Tennessee-specific shipping compliance fix for farm food products, and full sitewide accessibility, SEO/AEO, and security audits - all backed by a complete management guide so the client can run the site independently.

The farm's catalog, cart and checkout run on Shopify, but the storefront visitors see is fully custom. The Next.js front end pulls products through the Shopify Storefront API, so the Farmer's Market - jams, jellies, pickles, herbs and artisan vanilla extract - looks and behaves like the rest of the site instead of a bolted-on theme, while Shopify handles inventory, payments, taxes and fulfillment behind the scenes.
Shopify also serves as the site's headless CMS. The Animals, Experiences and Sale Pen sections are built on Shopify Metaobjects, so the owner adds a new animal, updates an experience or lists livestock for sale directly in Shopify Admin - the same dashboard she already uses for orders - and the change appears on the site with no developer and no code deploy.
Experience booking is built around Google Calendar instead of a separate scheduling database. A custom admin panel reads and writes calendar events directly, so availability, capacity and booking details always match the calendar the owner already runs her day from. A Pay Now checkout layer on Shopify, backed by Neon Postgres and a webhook-verified payment pipeline, lets visitors book and pay in one flow, with each payment reconciled against its booking.
Checkout includes GOVX ID verification through a Shopify app, giving verified veterans a 15% discount, and a dedicated shipping profile handles Tennessee requirements for farm food products. The project closed with sitewide accessibility, SEO/AEO and security audits, plus a complete management guide so the owner can run the site independently.
